TOUR DESCRIPTION

From the Medieval atmosphere of Lucca to the magnificent view of the leaning Tower in Pisa. Take our Pisa and Lucca day trip and discover two gems of Tuscany.

Duration: about 9 hours (including transportation time)

***IMPORTANT NOTICE ***

Our standard Pisa & Lucca Day Trip starts from Florence, but we can also arrange pick up/drop off in another town.

Our Pisa & Lucca Day Trip includes two of the most iconic cities in Tuscany.

We have designed this tour to provide the most satisfying experience ever; you will have a private driver and two local guides: one in Lucca and one in Pisa.

At Roads to Rome Private Tours we love to "go local", and believe that each town should be shown by a professional guide who lives there, or has a deep connection with it.

A private driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Lucca, where you will meet your first guide and start your tour.

This small but gorgeous town is one of the most peculiar cities in Tuscany. It's surrounded by massive walls built in the 1500s to protect the inhabitants. Lucca has a very long history: its most remote past is uncertain, but we know that since 180 b.C. it was a Roman city.

Despite the medieval atmosphere of the town, the Roman city plan survived in some areas of today's Lucca. A good example of that is the marvelous "Piazza Anfiteatro" (Amphitheater Square), the first highlight you will see. It looks like an ancient Roman amphitheater, the building used for gladiators' combats. The medieval and modern buildings were constructed on the ruins of the ancient structure, preserving its shape until today and creating a unique mix between past and present.

While exploring the picturesque small alleys of the city center, your guide will explain the history, the culture, the traditions of Lucca, making sure you have the best time in this town where time seems to have stopped.

You will explore via Fillungo, Lucca main street. It has a magnificent medieval look, and it hosts some of the oldest and most typical stores in the city. It will be a great place to take a break and do some shopping in a very special environment.

Then, you will visit Piazza Napoleone, whose construction was commissioned by Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, the sister of Napoleon. She ruled over the city at the beginning of the 1800s. One side of the square is entirely occupied by the imposing Palazzo Ducale, the core of political power since the middle ages.

At this point, you will probably be hungry. But, before having a well-deserved lunch break, you will visit the cathedral of San Martino. It dates back to the 11th century, and it is one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Italy.

After seeing the Cathedral, your guide will happily recommend you a nice restaurant, where you can rest and try some of the delicious local food and wine (not included in the price).

Then, your Lucca guide will accompany you to the car and say goodbye, so that your driver can take you to Pisa.

Here, you'll be welcomed by your second guide, who will show you the world-famous wonders of this unforgettable town: the Leaning Tower (from outside) the Duomo, the Baptistery (that you will see also inside).

Don't worry about the long lines, we will get skip-the-line tickets.

Why is the Leaning Tower so famous? Why is it leaning, and when did it start doing so? Your guide has all the answers!

While on tour, don’t be afraid to ask questions! Your guide also knows the best spots to take a nice picture, so don't miss the chance to get a great photo!

At the end of this Pisa and Lucca day trip, your driver will take you back to your hotel, where you can relax and think about all the beauty you have absorbed in only one day!
